Hoʻina

A clumsy boy named ʻEleu who accidentally loses a ball in the forested area near to his home and meets the spirit of a child who calls himself Hoʻina when he goes to retrieve it. The two explore the forest together and find connection despite their differences. What we don't understand doesn't have to be scary.

Visual development for a picture book concept, not a fully finished book idea like When I Hear My Name. Based on my childhood growing immersed in the superstition and folklore of Hawaii about the spirits who still remain around us.
